One of Melbourne’s much-loved restaurants is closing its doors after 30 years after being driven out by a combination of drugs and coronavirus.

Vietnamese restaurant Tho Tho’s on Victoria Street in Richmond has been operating for three decades, but closed for good on Thursday.
The owners said they have been struggling with the $37,000 in rent each month and that the number of customers has plummeted.
They said the wider impact of the coronavirus and the amount of drug dealers in the area because of the safe injecting rooms have affected business.

“The drug dealers are taking advantage of it. It’s actually a lot worse than it was three years ago,” Tho Tho’s co-owner Minh Nguyen said.
Victoria Street in Richmond has been struggling and there are a number of ‘For Lease’ signs on businesses in the area.
