Adriano Zumbo Pâtissier – Balmain, NSW

adrianozumbosummer

I finally got the chance to experience the most wonderful and extraordinary desserts by Adriano Zumbo. If you have been following the sydney foodbloggers then I am sure you are no stranger to the name Adriano Zumbo anymore. Adriano is currently the most talked about youngest award winning patisserie chef and everyone is raving about their luscious affairs with Adriano’s creation. A tiny little patisserie tucked in the busy strip of shops in Balmain, vividly colourful gateaux and pastries in the glass cabinet; patrons are seduced effortlessly.

I admire Adriano’s creativity and talent, and no doubt his vision of creating the most divine desserts are indescribable. Hence, I’ve decided not to review the desserts I’ve tasted (I am sure you have read enough about it on the other blogs). To show my admiration towards his creativity, I’ve spent some time to photoshoot some of the desserts and make them look the best as I can. I hope my images are as good as Adriano’s work, I’ll let the desserts speak for themselves.

Tarte aux Fruites de la Passion – Pate sable, passionfruit cremeadrianozumbo1

Chocolate Sacher – layer of sache cake & dark chocolate ganache layerscake1a

Wheely Wildly Wendy – Fresh roasted peach in a tonka bean creme legere, sandwiched between two almond dacquoise disks androlled in almond crumblecake2

Ciassius – Chocolate biscuit macaron, blackcurrant chocolate cremeaux, chocolate pieces with sea salt, dark chocolate Chantilly (gluten-free)cake3a

Have a chat, Kai! – Coconut dacquoise, lychee jelly, coconut mousse, coconut crunch, fresh strawberries and lychees (gluten-free)cake4a

Zumbo the kid – Vegemite bavaroise, peanut butter creme legere, raspberry jelly, chocolate peanut glacage, peanut feullitine, flourless chocolate biscuitcake5a

All the images are purely my own vision and passion towards food photography and it is not commissioned by Adriano Zumbo neither is his branding. But I hope you like it.

These are the most beautiful photos I’ve seen! The ‘have a chat, Kai’ is my favourite cake, and the effect you’ve done with the mercury drops is amazing. You should ask what Zumbo thinks – their website could do with a makeover.

Ooh great photots – I loved the simplicity of “have a chat kai”. I think Zumbo should be hankering for your phone number now! So now you had a taste, do you want more (we should go get more)

Spill Billy, which one was your favourite? My all time fave (so far) is the Passionfruit Tart *drool*

@Peter G: Thanks Peter, I had fun shooting it and spent hours retouching them. Beautiful desserts help alot.
@chocolatesuze: hehehe yeah the Wheely Wendy’s idea was in my mind right at the beginning, I wanted it to look like a snail out of Alice in Wonderland, but didn’t know how to convey the idea. I am glad the subtlety of the leaf still translate my idea pretty well. Yes Cassius probably my favorite photo, but not the dessert itself though.
@shez: Hehehe, actually we should go to the shop and wendy to ask her to say that 3 times, fast! :D
@Howard: Cheers, some I am not quite happy with (eg, zumbo the kid). Probably the most difficult one to photograph.
@Belle: I like Have a Chat Kai too, but not my favorite though, I lean towards dark chocolate. I always go to Zumbo’s website and hope there is a new update with new collection. :P
@Yas: Hehehe, you can buy them and eat them at the cafe few doors down. Something I am yet to try.
@Helen (grabyourfork): Thanks Helen, only one can hope, but I won’t say no to free desserts too! :D
@Y: Thanks Y, I just hope my images are lift up to the expectations.
@Anita: Thanks Anita. ;) I had much fun doing it.
@Karen: Do I want more? You kidding me, I want them all! I only tried 6, I guess making another trip to try the rest is definitely on the menu… ;) I think my all time fav is Zumbo the Kid, it is innovative using vegemite, a nice hint of saltiness in the rich intense chocolate, I am in heaven! :D

Great art direction and retouching! I like the reflection of the strawberry on the mercury drop in ‘Have a chat, Kai’ and my favorite is ‘Wheely wildly Wendy’.

And Chocolate Sacher! I have been looking for them all over Sydney – I gotta visit Balmain now!

  16. Suzie March 16, 2009 at 8:29 pm #

Those photos are really beautiful. (Wendy is my favourite). I think you should quit whatever else you are doing and focus on this sort of art work. You are very gifted.

I’m in love with these pics ! Especially the strawberries and peaches ones !
I like also the “Tartes aux fruits de la passion”, there is no “e” to fruits. If it is a little tart, it is a “tartelette”.

@pea & pear: hehehe, I think I will visit soon myself for another batch of those that I haven’t try.

Absolutely amazing! You take food blogging to a whole new level. If your photos aren’t used on the website and in advertising it is a crime! My favourite is the Wheely Wildly Wendy (which reminds me of the very hungry caterpillar) and the Chocolate Sacher (wonderful use of the purple hues and diamonds!)

    Stellar work… well done!
