Peanut Butter & Caster Sugar on Toast

peanutbuttersugar

I think I am still on the whole peanut butter addiction since the Fool’s Gold Loaf that I had at Parkes. And people find it strange that I sprinkle castor sugar on top after spreading peanut butter on toast. But that’s what I grew up on and I can actually explain the reason why I do that in a minute. I actually not a fan of bread, I think it simply because the amount of dull bread I’ve had every morning before school that my mum prepared for me had really put me off. She believes too much jam, or butter or peanut butter on the bread is not good for you (which is true), so the spread on the toast usually is paper thin and scarcely which is rather unexciting.

I am always amazed to see my friend can just grab a slice of bread and started chewing it down… *ugh*, it is so dry and doughy, how could you do that?!?! I definitely need some flavour to it. I like peanut butter, but don’t you always find the peanut butter on bread becomes so sticky after first bite and a little lump of bread will stuck to the roof in your mouth and you will have to scrape it off with your tongue, but then it will stuck again after few more chews?! Sprinkle a little bit of caster sugar will solve this problem. The caster sugar will give the peanut butter a little bit of texture and reduce the stickiness, and also the sweetness will also balance out with the salty taste of the peanut butter. So try it.

This is how I eat my peanut butter on toast, with caster sugar since I was a kid. So why stop now?

Try it.

I like my peanut butter with condensed milk squirted on top. Won’t help you though coz that’ll probably make it even more sticky! :D

Why so strange indeed. I also grew up with peanut butter sprinkled with copious amounts of white sugar – on bread, toast and crackers! I love chewing on the sticky peanut butter while crunching the sugar granules. I think I do it because it’s extra sweetness.

I found that peanut butter in the States is a lot sweeter than what we get here in Oz, and whilst I’ve never sprinkled sugar on my PB I did used to have a thing for butter and sugar sandwiches when I was little.

I like my peanut butter on toast with banana – the banana gives moisture and stops the PB sticking to the roof of your mouth. I also love puffed rice crackers with butter and peanut butter. Oh boy that’s good.

@K: condensed milk? too sweet!!! But I dont think I can, I can’t think fresh milk alone. I am not used to it.

@Karen L.: yeah, sometimes butter with sugar is good too. :P

@Howard@eatshowandtell: ahh yes, I have tried the honey and PB thing on bread but not on vita wheats, it sure is good.

@FFichiban: asian bread is sweet, that doesn’t count! :)

@Helen: yep, i used to have butter (or margerine) with sugar too. I think I definitely need to put PB and bacon together next! :P

where did you get your peanut butter from? All australian peanut butter taste like shit and suck sbig time. australians have really bad taste when it comes to spread for toast, as evidenced by their liking for another shit tasting product called vegemite. I only take the american peanut butter.
