“Well, today I am going to show you a simple recipe…”
Can you see me hosting a cooking show? HA! But more importantly, does this kitchen look familiar to you? I have watched the movie Julie & Julia a million times, I can imagined Julie Powell must be so excited and overwhelmed to see Julia Child‘s kitchen (even if is a replica) for the first time. I can totally relate to that similar experience as I put the apron on and holding a wooden spatula, inside Maggie Beer‘s film set kitchen where they filmed the TV show The Cook and The Chef!
But before you ask, no, it is not Maggie’s home kitchen, it is a fully functional kitchen purely for the TV production and it is located at Maggie’s Farm Shop in Barossa Valley. Everyone is welcomed to visit the shop and check out the pheasant farm outside, and if they are not too busy, they might let you into the film set to have a looksy if you are lucky. Currently, the kitchen is used for cooking classes and demonstrations. Maggie is seldom in the shop nowadays, but there’s always an oil painting of Maggie and Simon Bryant on the wall that you can pose and take a photo with.
I caught up with fellow Masterchef pal, John Hughes the Riesling Freak, and spent the afternoon at Maggie’s shop chitchatting over a cup of coffee, and of course we simply couldn’t leave without picking up some of Maggie’s famous pate and jams. I can’t wait to be back there again. It is a beautiful place to visit if you are in the area. Make sure to pick up the burnt fig ice cream too!
Aww.. I love Maggie Beer, but don’t we all?
