I greet you with an exciting news!

I am frequently asked what have I been up to since MasterChef. I am not very good at lying, but whenever that question comes up, I will get flustered and stuttered, my answer is usually vague, awkward and consists of one-word, ‘Busy-lah!‘ … which is true.

I’ve been busy doing cooking demonstrations here and there – true; trying to keep up with this blog – true; in the mean time, I have also started a part time job at Patisse in Waterloo, Sydney – another true. Amongst all these things, there are also few other exciting opportunities in the pipeline that I can’t wait to share with you all when time is right! And today, I finally able to reveal one very exciting news that I’ve been working closely and keeping a close lid for the last couple of months and finally it is official –

Hardie Grant will be publishing my first ever cookbook titled ‘Have You Eaten?’ in 2012!

Seriously pinch me now! I’ve always dreamed about publishing a book but never thought it would become a reality. Year 2011 has been very kind to me and lots of things have changed in my life, and definitely for the better.

It all started back in May 2010 at the Tasting Australia, where I first met the incredibly talented Paul McNally, publishing director at Hardie Grant. We have exchanged a few emails now and again and was approached by him to help out on the Foodies’ Guide to Sydney 2011 last year before I disappearing from the face of the earth into a TV land that not many people knew about. Then fast forward to May this year, surprisingly I’ve received an email from Paul with the subject title, “Um, I saw you on MasterChef?” … one thing led to another and before I know it, I was signing a contract to have my first cookbook published! Words cannot express how thrilled I am to be working with a publisher who has produced some of the most beautiful cookbooks for acclaimed chefs like Mark Best, Philippa Sibley, Greg Malouf and Margaret Foulton!

The book will be highly illustrated, with my photographs from cover to cover, featuring some of my favourite recipes that marry my Malaysian-Chinese background with flavours and techniques I have adapted while living in Australia. I will be doing everything from recipe writing and testing, down to photography and food styling; it will all be my work. It is a rare opportunity that I would love to get involved in from start to finish – and make sure everything is perfect. Am I crazy? Maybe. But is it worth it? Abso-friggin-lutely!

I hope you all are as excited as I am. We are aiming to have the book published in September 2012. I guess I better start cracking and make sure I meet the deadline! In the mean time, I will keep you all updated on the progress of the book over the coming months on this blog. If you are interested in volunteering of recipe testing, please do let me know also. Thank you!
