你好. Sabaidee. xin chào. Sour Sdey.
4 destinations + 3 cameras + 50 rolls of films + 1 hungry mouth + 720 hours of frenzy eating = a whirlwind gastronomic journey in S.E. Asia!
I am writing this post on the train on my way to airport. As you’d have probably noticed my little countdown clock on the sidebar. Yes, I will be heading over to South East Asia and eat my way around Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
But don’t worry, I have my MacBook with me so will definitely keep you all updated on my gastronomic journey whenever I can find Internet.
So I would like your help to make my journey more exciting! If you think there are particular food or restaurants I should try in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, please let me know with directions on how to get there and I definitely will try and hunt it down.
Fun aside, I will also vonlunteer at monk monastery in Luang Prabang and children hospital in Cambodia to get back to basic, and tap into a typical poverty lifestyle, especially from the food consumption perspective. And hopefully through this experience will make me wiser and appreciate food even more.
Until then, eat well and make sure you enter my Fridaylicious competiton to win the fantastic Mr Tean’s prize pack and have your own Malaysian food party at home!!!

I’ve heard KOTO is great in Hanoi is great as the staff are street kids who are being trained up and given a chance.
Check our my flickr a/c for some Laos suggestions. Some good food there!! Also easy internet access.
Can’t help with any of those 4 countries. Have a great time. I look forward to the food reports.

hi,
my husband and i just came back from living in Ho Chi Minh Cityfor 2 years and i am vietnamese by heritage so eat with a very discerning palate!
My most favourite favourite places to eat include
“Lang Nuong Nam Bo” for the best baby suckling pig ever – there are 2 but i can only remember one address 367 Cach Mang Thang 8, District 10.
“Minh Duc” – excellent standard Vietnamese food, canteen style
100 Ton That Tung, District 1
and for the bestest Vietnamese pork chop with rice, there is a street stall on a a street named Dinh Tien Hoang, you head out of District 1 on that street towards Binh Thanh District. Once you’ve crossed the bridge it’s about 500m on the left, you’ll see lots of plastic tables and chairs set up in front of a school and smell the meat cooking on coals before you see it
ooh and also on that street is the lady who sells the best Vietnamese pork rolls, you’ll pass her on the way to the pork chop! she has a light box sign, on her stand, and i think it’s called “Lan something”
and if you go to Nha Trang, eat the seafood that’s grilled on the street, not in restaurants!
So many places to eat, am hungry just thinking about it! You’re trip sounds amazing, i had the best two years eating of my life over there so hope is the same for you, happy munching! x
What a amazing experience to live.
Ok for the 3 cameras, but do you really still use filmrolls ?
In this case, 50 won’t be enough ….
Sorry for my poor english and …
bon voyage !

Hi Billy,
Be sure to try “Fish Amok” in cambodia, and if your brave enough “Jrouk Bahok” (cambodia’s special salsa) which is like a cambodian style super spicy chimichurri with fermented fish, fresh herbs, garlic, lemon juice and lots of smoked chillies it’s gold with bbq meats and seafood.
keep up the great work!
Another one Billy, try hawkers noodles “Nom Ba-Jok” which is an awesome Noodle Dish with chicken stock based soup with flaked fish lots of herbs and spices, be sure to add fresh chilli ,banana shoots, a squidge of lemon , a pinch of salt and depending on which area of cambodia you are in they will serve it with a topping of a sweet roasted peanut sauce!….mMm Yum!
