Fridaylicious 101 – #5

Clockwise L to R: 1. Bang it! 2. Drink it! 3. Slice it! 4. Keep it!
Beautiful bunch of ripe banana,
Daylight come and me wan’ go home…
Banana and me have a love hate relationship. I don’t mind banana but if I have to choose, I probably will choose other fruit over banana. But on the other hand, I absolutely love banana cake! I purposely let the banana sits in the fruit basket until soft and squishy so I can make banana cake out of them! Hopefully through these useful “yellow” gadgets, I will be able to enjoy my banana even more?
Well let’s find out together.

Is it just me or is getting hot in here?
I am flushing and I know what you are thinking! Imagine this, you bring along a banana to work for lunch, but only found it is bruised and soft by the time you ready to eat it. In worse case it might have split open and smear all over inside your nap sack or briefcase. No fret, Paul Stremple, the artist/inventor will pamper your banana with his Banana Bunker®. The Banana Bunker is made of hard plastic with flexible ripped mid-section and open ends on both side, it will fit almost every banana in different shapes and sizes. As people will say, “One Size Fits All”. If you want a step-by-step how to put the “tube” on the “banana”, then please visit this site for an educational demonstration. I would suggest you take the banana out of the Banana Bunker when no one is around, just to avoid embarassment in the office environment, especially the red color bunker. *phwoaahh, I am flushing already!*
Looks like the Banana Bunker doesn’t just protect banana, someone found it can be a decoration for Christmass too! Genius!

real fruit juice packaging - photos by Toxel
Fruit juice packaging by Naoto Fukasawa
ChocolateSuze has blogged about this a while ago, innovative fruit juice carton designed by Japanese industrial designer, Naoto Fukasawa. A series of creative fruit juice packages that have the look and feel of the fruit they contain. The banana carton is long and tall, I especially like the little bruise on the fold and some green patch on the bottom of the carton. I wish it is peelable to like a flat pack for easy recycling.
Other few designs including strawberry, kiwi with hairy carton, and the wild card is a Silken Tofu packaging for soy milk drink. Will on the look out for them next time when I am in Japan.

banana slicer - photos by Coram
Dont mess with me, or I’ll chop you off!
Banana slices on top of cereal for morning breakfast, banoffee pie, crepes, pancakes, the possibilities are endless! I want to get it so I can slice sausages like cabanossi. It is not so bendable like the Banana Bunker, but it sure will slice all your banana into pieces! You can either hand chop the banana (Oh my god! You mean the hard way?!) or use this Banana Slicer at only US$2.59 (AUD$3.50) on Amazon! This banana slice will only be useful if you are going to eat the whole sliced banana at one go. If not, then you will have to think of an alternative, which leads to my next item…

Nana saver - photos by evriholder
Not sure about other countries, but in Australia, the bananas are frecking ENORMOUS! It is so big that I only need to slice half of the banana for my cereal. So what to do with the other half? Well, the Nana Saver will come to the rescue! The Nana Saver is like a paper clip but shaped of a banana. You can attach it to the end of a cut banana to reduce it expose to the air, so it will stay fresh longer and reduce browning. Who would have thought, huh? I wondering whether I can use it to clip on open end of salami too? mmm…. The possiblities… It’s only US $3.00 on ChefTools, go on… you know you want it.

A Table For Two (ATFT) is Billy Law's food blog that features best eats in Sydney and around the world with drool-worthy food photography to salivate your appetite. I also throw in a smidgen of my food and travel photography for good measure. Billy Law also happened to be a contestant on MasterChef Australia 2011.

LOL! where do you find out all this info? I was spitting my coffee out with laughter with the first pics…they look a little rude! As for the banana slicer, what about using a knife and board?

I can just imagine someone’s banana bunker falling out of their briefcase on the way home from work. Raised eyebrows aplenty and noone would believe your story about it being a banana storer! lol!

Aside from the fruit packs, which I think are a nice bit of marketing, the rest seem like a load of chindogu i.e. near useless.
Maybe, just maybe the banana bunker. You can have some fun with it and then break it open and have a snack afterwards to wind down
Cool stuffs!!

Those are so cool, especially the little banana bunker, because I hate when you take a banana for lunch and EVERYTHING ends up stinking like banana! Not sure the slicer is really needed … a knife’ll take care of that!

i’m always amazed at all the new gadgets and marketing these days which is created to make people think they need something which they probably don’t or would never had thought of. it’s like selling ice to eskimos. i like the Fruit Juice packaging though — very cool. But the Banana Bunker, Nana Saver and Banana Slicer i think are good contenders in the future for the Chindogu category of useless objects http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chindōgu Here’s a favourite of mine http://www.chindogu.com/chindogu/chin3.html
