Today is all about taking easy, bake some cake, make some dessert soup, look after the herb garden and try some candies from overseas. I’ve also decided to take my Polaroid SX-70 out for a spin. I love my polaroid camera, it is an oldie, but a goodie. It is a shame the film has been discontinued and now I am slowly burning the last few packets I have left in the stash. So sad…
Anyway, I went to a local candy shop that sells candies and lollies from overseas and got myself some goodies. I have to save my all time favourite is still the Reese’s peanut butter cup. I think I buy them almost every single time when I go to that shop, and I was actually gasped when I saw a 2kg tub of Reese’s peanut butter jar inside the shop! I was so tempted to get it. But this time I decided to try something different. As you can see, I got Wispa (UK), Baby Ruth (USA), and Twix Peanut Butter (USA). I can’t wait to try them, and I also would like to know what you guys think is the best candies from UK or US. Let me know and see I can hunt them down next time when I am there.
Don’t you just love the scent of fresh mint?! We have started growing our own little herb garden since last October and finally it is taking shape and all the sprouts are now fully grown and healthy. In the herb garden now we have Parsley, Mint, Thyme, Chilli Padi and Aji Pepper. I love my chilli and Chilli Padi has become an essential ingredient whenever I make fresh salad. They are not cheap at supermarket and sometimes they are not that fresh and shrivelled up. So I kept some of the unused chillies and left it sun dry at the window sill, and used the seeds to grow the chilli myself.
Actually me and gardening don’t mix, I don’t have green thumb what so ever, and more of a plant killer. So I am quite chuffed that my little herb garden is doing so well. I can’t wait for my chilli plant to have the first harvest, and the joy of picking my home grown chillies.
I would love to expand my herb garden once it has stabilised and can maintain itself. Here’s a few that I would like to add to my collection: Basil, Rosemary, Kaffir Lime Leaf and Pandan Leaf. Would like to know who has their own little herb garden and what is in their collection, maybe can do a little swap?
The only cooking I did today is make a chinese dessert soup – Red bean soup with mandarin peel. I suddenly craved for this dessert drink and makes me homesick so decided to get the saucepan out, and make a big pot of it. The mandarin peel in the soup is not commonly used, but it does give the soup a nice refreshing zest taste to it. I will have a proper post with recipe of this soup soon.
Hence, this is my little quiet Sunday, doing what I do best – “EAT”.
