Tony Roma’s – Sydney CBD

20 bags x 250gram superior blend = a whopping 5kg of Campos coffee precious = makes people goes beans nuts with ribs!
We don’t have a scissor or razor box cutter, Ms Rice’s steady hand slowly opening a big cardboard box with a house key. We suddenly all gasped and loud sighs echoing the whole restaurant when it reveals a jam-packed full of Campos coffee beans inside. All the hands are out immediately grabbing the bags, the caffeinated Hungry Digital Elf is instantly high like a sniffer dog on drugs! The ’5 fiddy’ Phon is rubbing 2 bags on his face ohh-ahhing, so wrong yet so right. After a few good minutes molesting those beans, everyone put the bags back inside the box with a satisfaction sigh, or perhaps a sad sigh as no one is allowed to take them home because the box will be shipped to New York as they are a gift to our newlywed friends.

In homage to our great boss, Canadian mate, foos pal and ribs companion; we have decided to gather once again at Tony Roma’s, the place where the ritual of mateship bonding between rivals has taken place. A good night catching up with some old pals who I haven’t see for such long time over beer, chat, laugh, share stories, feeling nostalgic over our Canadian pals. (~scrap that~) We are simply here for some tender, juicy, meaty ribs!
We are offered with complimentary fresh baguette with herb butter while waiting for our ribs. We also take the time to fill up not one, but 3 greeting cards to send along with the coffee. The baguette has nice crust with a warm soft centre, shame the small tub of garlic butter just ain’t enough.
No monkey business and straight to the point, we all ordered full slab baby back ribs with fries and coleslaw on the side, except Ms Rice goes for only half slab, and the Hungry Elf has a mashed potato with his. The ribs are finger licking good, basted with original BBQ sauce all over. It is actually quite meaty, and lots to chew on. Even though it is a little on the dry side, but the flavorsome sauce makes it all good, I am not complaining; obviously neither are these hungry eaters.
“Do you think we should order it?” I was taunted by the onion loaf on the menu, a beautiful great wall of golden brown battered onion rings, crowning a plate of BBQ Mayo dipping sauce on top. After some reassurance from the digital elf who had it before, we order it anyway despite we are already so full from the ribs.
The crown of onion rings is lightly battered then deep fried, piping hot and crunchy. The accompanied BBQ mayo dipping sauce is rather insignificantly mild and I find it has a strange flavour to it. But the ‘X’ stomper has gone too far and started dipping the rib in the sauce, so wrong.
“When do you want your take-away ribs?” the waitress asks.
“In 15 minutes”, The ‘X’ stomper replied.
“You mean, to prepare the ribs in 15 minutes, or be ready by in 15 minutes?” She asks again.
The ‘X’ stomper is not joking, he orders another full slab for a second round when he gets home. We all bid each other farewell after a good night, leaving Tony Roma’s with sticky fingers, waving goodbye to ‘X’ Stomper’s “spare” ribs with envy eyes.
