Christmas Day lunch

xmas085

Burn, baby burn!

“one… two… one… two…  am I still alive?”

I am over-eating, over indulged, and overloaded over this Christmas and is not even over yet! The Christmas Day lunch this year probably one of the best I’ve had for a long time. Since Mr P and I don’t have any family members here in Australia, we usually got invited to orphan Xmas party on Christmas Day, but this year we decided to stay home and had our own Christmas lunch with the kids – Amelie the dog and Pepe the cat.

Yes, don’t blink, that’s the portion for one! We did it goood…  in fact, we did it real goooooooodddd… Mr P, ex-Pom from the pommieland, he demands nothing but traditional English Christmas lunch. Hence, I let him in-charge of the lunch this year, and all I did was to roast my pork to perfection, with extra crackling crunchiness!

Mr P believes that it is not a traditional Christmas feast without the good ole Brussels sprouts, especially over steam them till mushy. At $14.99/kg, definitely the most expensive vegetable that leaves you rather flatulent this Christmas. We had roast chicken instead of turkey this year, accompanied with gourmet sausages wrapped in bacon. Then also the roast pork with apricot stuffing with crackling to die for.

Lindauer Brut Cuvee

A feast is not a feast without the entrée and dessert right? Mr P had also prepared a light snack before the meal with Maggie Beer‘s pheasant pate on crostini. The pate is rich, smooth, and peppery, we washed it down with a nice bottle of Lindauer Brut, a Christmas present from a friend of ours. We finished the bottle between two of us over meal no trouble, joyful!

Is there room for more?! Yes sir, there is always room for dessert! The Newcastle’s Pudding Lady never let us down with their traditional recipe. All we had to do is heat it up, and flambé the pudding with Brandy for that little extra “Oomph!” Oh, so beautiful to see the purple flame glowing around the pudding.

We poured a sickening amount of custard cream on top and also served with some Brandy butter that Mr P prepared earlier. It is so so so rich and sweet, I just couldn’t bring myself to finish it. I had to lie down on the sofa, and it was all a blur soon afte.. r .z .zzz. zzzzz….

Hours later, I am convinced I was sleep walking, finding myself heading towards kitchen to polish off the Christmas Pudding I have left earlier…
