@Alexis: Hi, kokuya is right in the shibu onsen street which is the closest town to the monkey park. But all towns are within walking distance (30min max). There are 2 walking paths to get to the monkey park. One is taking you up a steep hill through the forest, will take 30-45mins to reach the monkey park, winter time can take longer. The bus will take u to the other path which is on the other side of the hill, which is less steep but still will take around 20-30mins walk to get to the park. If the bus is not operating during winter, I guess it will take another 15-20min walk to the base of the walk path no. 2.

If you book at kokuya, please do ask for Zeno wether he will be kind enough to take u up to the monkey park, as I know he does take guests up there from to time whoever needs a guidetour and he is not too busy with his business of course. If not at least kokuya can offer u a ride to the foot of the hill.

I hope that helps, enjoy shibu onsen, I think u will love it there.

Hey, we are thinking of reserving a room with Kokuya Shibu Onsen. Is the monkey park within walking distance? I understand that the minibus to the park does not operate every day during winter. If that's the case, are there any other public transport available?

How I envy you! I agree. The Japanese certainly have a way with presentation and hospitality. Lucky you to get your own hot bath on the balcony. Can't wait for the next installment...
