Porridge, Coffee, and a rainy Saturday morning
Winter has passed and welcome the spring. Unfortunately there is no sunshine, no spring breeze, but instead of heavy down pour, and gustly wind for the last few days. I had a lie in this morning snuggle up with Amelie (my Cavalier King Charles), listening to the pouring rain outside probably one of the best moments I would never forget. Eventually we moved our lazy ass and got out of the bed around 10 ish and ready for breakfast. On a cold rainy morning like this, there is nothing better than a nice cup of hot coffee, and a bowl of warm porridge with banana and honey.
Back in Malaysia, porridge we have for breakfast is usually rice porridge (congee). The only time we have oatmeal porridge is probably when we feel ill and lose appetite. Have to confess I wasn’t a big fan of oatmeal when I was a kid, always think it is bland, tasteless and gooey. Even now, porridge is still probably not something I eat very often. After being in Australia for so long, I slowly learn how to appreciate it and make it more tasty with the help of fresh milk, honey and fresh fruit.
I usually cook the porridge with skim milk, and a tablespoon of sugar until nice and smooth, and sticky. Top it with some fresh banana slices, sometimes strawberries. Then drizzle over with a generous amount of honey and I also added a small lump of honeycomb on top. It is so nice when every bite there is something sweet to chew on… hmmmm heavenly.
Finish it off with a nice hot cup of coffee…. or two. Sit back, relax, writing this blog, while watching a DVD, with Amelie in her green sweater, curl up and snoozing… I think we are pretty much occupied for the rest of the day.
